    Opening of Ashdale school, Windsor Star, January 13, 1908. In 1908 when the Ashdale School was built and opened, the area was not in the City of Toronto but in the Township of York. York Township appointed a woman as principal, probably saving money by doing so as female principals and teachers were paid a fraction of what men made teaching.
